August 1, 1953. Original newspaper caption: “This photo-diagram shows how traffic will be routed southbound as it leaves the Arroyo Seco Freeway, and northbound into the Arroyo Seco. Southbound motorists are warned that if they want to continue southward on Figueroa street, they must get in the extreme right lane, turn left over the Alpine street bridge.
“Center box on photo tells how to get to Hollywood and Santa Ana Freeway, or to downtown L.A. via the new Harbor Freeway link. Lanes at left (Figueroa street), now used by both north and southbound traffic, will be for northbound only.”
